The 2nd Annual #Artskickers Awards is just around the corner! Time to nominate your #Artskicking Heroes

The #Artskickers Awards uncovers, rewards and connects people who are creating pathways for disadvantaged communities into the arts world. We also platform emerging talent to support them on their journey.

Our vision is to create a powerful network of #Artskickers across East London and beyond. Join us!  – Angie Gough, Founder

Founded in January 2017 by arts activist Angie Gough (@TheArtsCrusader), the #Artskickers Awards is organised by a diverse team of volunteers from London and beyond. For 2018, Angie has joined forces with Well Street wonder woman Kay Richardson (@KickingKrich) to build on its success.

Nominations for this year’s Awards open in April – check the website for all the details.

The creative industries contribute £92billion to the UK economy and are its fastest growing sector. Yet… the practice and study of drama, design, music and art are increasingly sidelined in schools. This cheeses us off, so we’re piloting the Awards in East London, with a view to expanding across London and beyond.

With a population of over 276,000, East London is a global centre for creativity and innovation. Yet the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Hackney, Haringey, Newham, Tower Hamlets & Waltham Forest, consistently rank as having some of the highest levels of deprivation in the UK.

In Hackney alone, 41% of kids live in poverty and we know for a fact that there’s a real disconnect between those who get to benefit from arts participation and those who don’t.

The #Artskickers are the individuals and organisations who – every day – ensure that disadvantaged communities get to experience the benefits of arts participation. Working in isolation, they’re making a big difference. By bringing them together, we aim to amplify their impact and judging by what happened last year, we’ll create an even bigger BOOM!

It’s easy to nominate, just follow these 3 steps:
1. Register your info on the website:
2. Tell us who you’re nominating, where we can find them and why they’re so artskicking
3. Upload a photo or video (optional) and voila, they’re on the road to glory!
